SAB CHARITRA KALPANIK (ALL CHARACTERS ARE FICTITIOUS)

My wife Paramita and I went to Priya cinema to see "Sab Charitra Kalpanik", a film by Rituparno Ghosh. Rituparno has once again proved himself a director's director through his flawless understanding of the human nature, particularly the female mind and by his adept handling of the script, music and characters of the film. Though the film is woven around three characters, the role of "Rai" played by Bips is of utmost importance and the important link between the other two characters. It is so difficult to view a bengali film nowadays and come out in peace with oneself and one must thank both Prasenjit and Jishu for pitching in with equally memorable and powerful pieces of acting. Artists like Bips and Prasenjit who are generally associated with main stream hindi/bengali cinemas have once again proved that given a good script, music and powerful direction, they can still make waves in our heart and leave a lasting impression with their performance. Let me confess that while viewing the movie never did I give a thought about that Bips I have heard or seen in the gossip columns or movies like Jism or Raaz, for here was a new Bips, a splendid creation of Rituparno, who only possessed a mind !

I ask all bengali cinema lovers to see the film, a film that will make us bengalis proud.

  1. All characters are not fictitious in Rituparno's Sab Charitra Kalpanik; Instead they come up from the core of human passions and emotion given the situations recreated in the film with immense artistry. I am overwhelmed by the plot, play and above all by contribution of Bipasha, Prasenjit, Jishu, Sohag Sen ... and the speechless Paoli.
